« backOrepuke
32 vans turned up for this rally on Black Friday. Orepuke on the Southern Scenic Route in Southland is in one of the most remote and windiest parts of New Zealand where the trees grow parallel to the ground. The weather was perfect and the locals remarked on the two consecutive windless days.
The Saturday morning talk about the historic town where gold and shale were the mainstays for the community and more than five hotels for 3000 people in the early 19th Century was well received.
After lunch a “Walking Bus“ tour saw the majority of members joining for a leisurely stroll around the town following the guide who explained where sluicing was done and the deeds of some of the more colourful local characters and where various homes and businesses had been. An early “Happy
Hour” was had and around 5pm the majority of members adjourned to the only hotel left where a TV had been especially set up for us to watch Southland beat Counties.
Sunday, following a Forum discussion saw the usual raffles and farewells to the many friends and motor homers.

Labour Weekend Rally
This rally is designated as a fundraiser to send a local young person to Outward Bound and to raise funds for the Life Flight rescue helicopter service. The Rhodes family generously allow us to park in their paddock and match our fund raising efforts. NZMCA members have met here 21 times and this was the largest so far with 124 vehicles. Five vehicles were checked for Self Containment certification, 2 new and 3 rechecks.
These rallies are renowned for excellent weather, great camaraderie, heaps of laughs and good fishing. One successful fisherman sold some of his catch and gave the money to the cause. Thank you to the generous folk who bought fish.
Money was raised from the entry fees, raffles, fish sales and donations. Mr David Rhodes visited to talk about the very positive outcomes local secondary school students who attended Outward Bound achieved. He read the letter of appreciation received from the person selected to attend a course this year. A record of $1600 was handed over for Outward Bound and $800 will be given to the Life Flight Trust. Also during the weekend, Jacky and Rob Gorton introduced the game of Disk Bowls to Northland club.

Combined with Waikato at Taumarunui
Thursday night saw 21 vans parked at the lovely Piriaka NZMCA park. Twenty of them were on their way to the combined rally. The committee left early Friday morning to set up the rugby club rooms for the vans to arrive from 2pm onwards. We finished up with a total of 98 vans for what turned out to be a fun-filled weekend. Friday night was Flag 500 with lots of laughs and some serious players. After morning tea, several went shopping in town.
Beautiful meat packs from the local butchery were well sought after
as a prize in the quickfires at happy hour. After the evening meal Terry Moratti and helpers had us all singing, dancing or just listening to this talented musician entertaining.
Sunday was a free day to catch up with friends a few went next door and played bowls with two bringing home a prize. That night a Hangi meal followed by a walk up concert with lots of entertainers all with different styles of items was enjoyed. Our Chairman was piped into the hall then sang the Scottish Anthem.
All too soon it’s Monday and off home.

Top of the South, Amuri Area School, Culverden, Labour Weekend
First up on Friday night was a mix and mingle in the Hall. Saturday morning some members enjoyed a bus trip to Waiau to the weekend-long centennial celebrations held there. Those who stayed behind at the rally enjoyed a BBQ lunch and cake stall provided by local scouts. Afternoon tea was ‘meet new
friends’ before happy hour and raffles. In the evening, members danced to music provided by ‘Shenandoah’, followed by a sumptuous supper.
On Sunday after morning tea and devotional service, a self containment workshop was well supported by members. In the afternoon a craft sale was held in the hall while Diane and Marion entertained the children with games and competitions. After tea everyone went back to the hall for a ‘walk up’ concert and sing-a-long. With a variety of items performed everyone was kept well entertained and impressed by the depth of talent we have in the Club.
On Monday after morning tea, the drawing of a huge number of superb raffle prizes and the taking of area photos, everyone soon packed up and prepared to leave. Another enjoyable weekend.

Kinloch Rally – Australian travel experiences
What started as a good idea – a rally with the theme of Australian travel experiences – exceeded all expectations and turned out to be one of the biggest rallies Rotorua branch has ever held. 160 members from Canterbury to Northland poured into the domain to learn, share their experiences, and have a lot of laughs. Parking was fast and efficient under the guidance of Adrian and Murray … the vehicles just kept coming!
Plan B was immediately put into action under the guidance of Rod Tipping, with the speedy erection of a 12m marquee, partly sponsored by the local Taupo Lakeland Lions club. We were also grateful to Opus International Consultantsnfor sponsoring the twin speaker PA system for the adjoining facilities.
The venue was superb: trees, green, sheltered domain, million dollar boating marina nearby and a short walk to Kinloch beach on Lake Taupo, just past the Tipsy Trout restaurant.
We were very grateful to the members who had both written notes and good memories to share with us on a range of
topics including freedom camping in rural and outback areas; buying and selling a vehicle or caravan in Australia; shipping; and insurance.

Murchison School
What a weekend with Sunshine and Country Music. There were 36 vans arrived on Friday afternoon and took up a park in the school grounds. Others stayed in the Murchison P.O.P.
After a damp evening and a quiet night everyone woke up to a fine day. After morning tea everyone set off to explore the village. They arrived back with what they found in a shop selling old things. The Museum was a must-visit place – it was interesting.
After lunch, many went to the old theatre to join in with the Murchison and Stoke Country club’s afternoon and evening of Country singing. It was a great time with rally members joining in.
Sunday morning all were saying ‘what a show’! Morning tea over and quick thank you to the Rally Marshalls and the vans were on their way home.

Combined Canterbury/South Canterbury Rally, Lincoln
Seventy vans gathered to enjoy wonderful weather at Lincoln. Warm weather also induced willing helpers to erect the club’s 3- pole marquee – minus side panels – for shade and comfort.
Visitors from Southland, West Coast and also from up in the Far North attended. Well done those travellers.
A special bus for those wishing to attend the Canterbury A& P show was available and those possessing a Gold Card were able to travel throughout Christchurch with some doing a
trip to Lyttelton and catching the launch across to Diamond Harbour and return. Friday evening the movie “Crackerjack” film was enjoyed, featuring the inimitable John Clarke, which provided many a good laugh. On Saturday evening a variety concert was held in the old Lincoln Community Centre, with many of the entertainers being volunteers from our club.
Nature however had to have a final say, turning on a 4.7 ‘shake, rattle and roll’ during the
night. A special thanks to the rugby club for use of their facilities and well mown parking area.
Campers slowly departed for home, or further travels, but very short of cash after depositing
$400 in the area cash box through generous outlay in the quick fire raffles.

Waimate Show Rally
Beautiful weather, heavenly food, great Northland wines and convivial company added up to another very enjoyable country show this year. Our 100 NZMCA members who attended in 53 vans had a great time and a glance at the expense sheet showed they added considerably to the Far North economy.
As well as attracting interest from the public because of the number and diversity of our
vans we also had two members exhibiting their vintage vehicles. Bruce Auger #3975 brought along his 1925 McLaughlin Buick completely restored to original specifications over 25 years. He also had his 1926 Raleigh Motor Cycle that he had spent 15 years restoring from little more than part of the front forks and a rear mudguard complete with wheel. Parts of the motor were discovered buried in a vegetable garden. There was also a beautifully restored 1951 Bradford Ute still in use by John Inverarity #21153.
12 November 2010
Otamarakau
47 vans attended this popular beachside setting. The weather looked after us and we had a good crowd with great entertainment. Friday evening saw us in the marquee guessing whose legs were behind the screen … and as for Roy !!!!
Saturday and a fishing competition. Saw a few suspect fish – just ask our board member Lindsay. One of the Rally Marshalls went missing and returned with a bowl of whitebait, while a first time rallier came in with six
snapper in the 1 ½ – 2 kg range off his long line. Saturday night was a jam session.
We had four first time rallier vans. At our AGM 18 months ago we decided to give all new members their first rally free. We got our first one back at this rally. Good also to see all the dog owners being responsible. ‘Mr Plod’ reported three harmless incidences which caused much laughter.
Thanks to our first time Rally Marshals June & Keith and Odelle & Trevor – great job.

Horopito Fireworks Rally
The rally started with lovely fine weather, about 25 vans arrived, most in time for Happy Hour, which was held in the recently renovated school. Everyone had lots of fun with the ever popular meat raffles.
Saturday dawned lovely and fine, after morning tea and during the afternoon, members took the opportunity to visit Horopito Motors
(Smash Palace), walk some of the Old Coach Road, while others rode their bikes on the Old Coach Road into Ohakune. Happy hour on Saturday with general raffles plus more meat raffles. In the evening the local population turned up for a BBQ, then the huge bonfire was lit and hundreds of fireworks were let off
– a lovely sight and a great evening was had by all.
Sunday morning was time for the drawing of raffles and farewells. But not everyone departed at this stage. Many of us waited to see the Classic cars go by as they were on their way to the Hermitage on Mt Ruapahu as part of their rally.
Overall it was a very successful and full weekend.

Rongotea Rally
Te Kawau Memorial Recreational Centre at Rongotea was the venue for our Christmas celebration.
Friday evening we enjoyed music played by Colin Eglinton and joined in carols led by Margaret Taylor. To test our intellect Cath Purdie had organised a Christmas quiz.
Saturday morning, after morning tea, eats included Christmas mince pies, the local Lamb & Calf Day was held in the grounds.
This enabled some of us to relive memories of dragging or being dragged by our reluctant pets!
Saturday from 6pm we celebrated Christmas, starting with a compulsory “drench” from Russell Oldham, a superb dinner thanks
to Marilyn Laurence and an evening of dancing with Ian Farmer who created a great atmosphere for a fun filled night.
After cutting and sharing a wonderful Christmas cake made by Bev Terry, it was the usual wooden spoon and fork awards, raffles, clean up and a lunch enjoyed by the stayers, sharing the leftovers from our dinner the night before.
Thanks for another great Christmas rally and special thanks to everyone who helped to make it such a success.

Woodville Racecourse
43 vans arrived on Friday, most in time for
Happy Hour.
Saturday after Morning Tea (with a variety of home baking) there was a bus trip up
the Saddle Road to the Te Apiti Wind Farm. Following lunch there was a competition to see who could lift the most plastic balls from a skip full of water using a small digger. A couple of ladies proved to be very good beating some
of the more experienced hands. Trips to the Cherrywood Bears and Dolls Collection and the Woodville Pioneer Museum proved to be very popular. Woodville second hand shops and Yummy Mummy’s Cheesecake shop also encouraged some rallyers to part with their money.
Happy Hour and the meat raffles were again well patronised and the evening’s entertainment saw a couple of invited local artists encouraging some budding entertainers take part in Karaoke. A great time was had by everyone.
Morning Tea on Sunday, with more home baking, saw the drawing of the raffles and after the usual farewells it was time to leave a very well run rally by first time rally marshalls Raewyn and Gerard Murray and Jean McLean. Well done to you all.

Lumsden Christmas Rally
A most enjoyable yet relaxing rally was held at Lumsden. There was a good turnout of members (35 vans) who enjoyed the chance to mix and mingle with little emphasis on a busy programme. The weather smiled on us and this added to the enjoyment.
The meal was up to the usual high standard, all enjoying the Christmas fare with the meats cooked by BBQ in double quick time, then served up in style by the committee.
Once the meal had settled some made the effort to walk across the way to view the garden of Mr and Mrs Ted Menlove – no doubt
a labour of love. In the evening a Quiz was held to test the nettle of those that attended.
Sunday morning and once the rally was closed many were reluctant to leave, spending time
to enjoy the companionship of those around them. As usual it was good to see the C.V. members present among the throng.

Paradice
We went looking for paradice and we found it! Paradice is a new Park Over property just north of Whangamata. Our hosts were John and Wendy Hallan and they were the best you could imagine. We settled in amongst the avocado trees in a very picturesque setting with lovely walks around the ponds complete with water lillies. Ruby, the Kune Kune pet pig, kept everyone amused with her antics following John around the farm/orchard. John gave a talk on the joys (or not) of avocado growing and a tour of the farm by tractor and trailer for the adventurous (for the more sedate, a ride in his Mary Pickford Lincoln car).
In lieu of entertainment on Saturday evening, Irwin arranged for a “Cooks night Off” and provided, with some new helpers, a sumptuous barbecue. We would encourage everyone to go and partake of the Hallans’ hospitality.

Port Waikato Holiday Park
A wonderful weekend with 110 vans attending. Friday night we had whitebait fritters, Saturday morning we had fresh cream and jam scones followed by freshly smoked fish for tea (complements of the camp owners, Christine and Colin). The Nisbet Cup was up to its usual standard and great fun was had by all. The three amigos kept us all laughing with their antics.

Matamata
99 vans rolled along to the Christmas Rally at the Matamata Racecourse. A Christmas gift of crackers, cheese and a jar of pickle was handed to the members as they registered.
Friday night, the Ascot Lounge was brought alive to the music from 10 members of the Morrinsville Country Music Club, ranging in age from 9 year old twins to mature adults.
The audience was captivated by the twins, who called themselves “the Blondinies”, when they sang a couple of duets and showed they have a very promising future.
The children’s programme started at 11 am on Saturday morning with entertainment from 2 Elves (Gary Snipe and son Sam). A puppet show, singing and stories had the adults laughing as much as the children. A few children fronted up to have their faces painted. A lucky dip and lolly scramble took place before Santa arrived on a fire engine to distribute Christmas presents to the children.
Saturday night, a delicious dinner was followed by music from the Blue Jays Band. Many old time dances were enjoyed by members and some line dancing was included.
Thanks to the committee for an enjoyable Christmas Rally.

Xmas Rally, Simpsons Reserve, Papamoa
Friday evening got the grey matter working overtime, with witty quiz master Ross Hamilton testing our general knowledge.
Saturday the committee cooked us a BBQ lunch. Santa arrived in style with Rudolph guiding his shiny, red, open top BMW sports car, accompanied by glamorous oversized fairies. Everyone wearing their Xmas hats received nice presents from Santa. Xmas dinner together in the marquee with delicious desserts supplied by the committee. An interesting talk was given by Patrick Nolan, Beefeater – Yeoman of the Guard – of the Tower of London. The only NZ’er to ever hold this position. His uniforms were very impressive. With Alma on the keyboard, Dorries Florries led the carol singing.
Sunday dawned with misty drizzle, and groups gathered in several motorhomes to watch the All Blacks. Much merriment could be heard every time a try was scored and some shared a celebratory breakfast. The heavens opened just before morning tea but didn’t deter everyone coming to the marquee in hope of winning one of the fabulous Xmas hampers.
A very enjoyable rally. Thanks to the hard working committee. 84 vans in total.

Ruakituri Golf Club
The scenic drive up the Ruakituri River Valley Road made the trip to the venue very pleasant. The clubhouse is 20km from the highway turnoff at Te Reinga adjacent to the waterfalls. By Friday evening 30 vans were in attendance with another one from Wairoa arriving on Saturday. Most took advantage of the glorious weather on the Friday and Saturday to go walking, trout fishing, play golf and other leisure activities. Darts, quoits, tennis and card games were also enjoyed on the Saturday evening after a superb BBQ/Potluck dinner.
The 63 persons present were entertained by solo vocalist Ivan Sincock a member from Taupo. Early on the Sunday morning we were woken by the sound of rain. However this was a blessing in disguise because we were able
to watch the All Blacks/Irish rugby test held in
Dublin.
Peter Birt won the prize for the best trout caught while Peter Corrin won the sports award. The lucky van prize was won by Alan and Gael Watt who detoured to Ruakuturi after completing a long South Island tour. Congratulations to everyone for making the rally weekend so enjoyable.

Wanaka
Friday saw 38 vans from as far away as Rotorua arrive at Peter and Raylene Shanks property near Wanaka. Happy hour followed, with a welcome and information about the weekend then lots of laughs and catching up with friends.
Rain overnight cleared for Saturday morning tea, and the marquee was erected.
Saturday afternoon, 17 members took the opportunity to cruise Lake Wanaka on the “Dual Image” which was thoroughly enjoyed by all onboard. Later happy hour was followed by pot luck tea and quiz evening.
Some members had a scout around the local recycling centre, coming back with treasures for very small cost.
Three National Life members attended the rally: June Eggers, Margaret and John Spain. With some encouragement, they shared with us their contribution to the club which resulted in their Life member status. Five new members attended.
Sunday at morning tea, Tim Scurr, a 4th generation farmer from the Cardrona Valley, gave a very interesting talk on his farming and mining experiences in the area.
Thanks to rally marshalls, Ron and Valda Cross, Dave and Ngaire Millar for a relaxing well run fun rally.

Christmas Rally
On Saturday morning Kevin presented a 30- year badge to Carol Huntington and 15-year badges to Merv & Bev Wright, and Dennis & June Young. Following morning tea the children were kept busy by finding items they needed for their treasure hunt. In the afternoon Grace Thomas kept them busy decorating the tent and playing games. Mr & Mrs Santa came to happy hour bearing gifts for the children and lollies for the adults.
In the evening we partook in a wonderful meal provided by the members of the PTA. No mean feat to provide such a great dinner for 128 people. Some children from the school entertained us with their dancing and singing skills. On Sunday morning, following morning tea, we all shared a piece of Xmas cake and a tipple of port before leaving on our merry way.

Takapau Park
A warm welcome. We were early so had a relaxing time until Happy Hour, by which time many more motor homes had arrived. Meat raffles were drawn. During the evening we sang Christmas carols, followed by a great film “Saving Christmas”.
Saturday kicked off with morning tea and sale of raffles during which we had a compulsory fire drill. (Tip: don’t get caught in the shower during fire drill!) Father Christmas arrived during the afternoon with his bag of goodies for the children and adults. Children’s raffle drawn, followed by lolly scramble and games.
Dinner tables were set up and decorated before happy hour. Dinner served with meat, potatoes, asparagus, and lots of
salads, followed by huge array of desserts. Wine was poured by two very glamorous
fairies. Table 1 won best dressed table. After dinner the band struck up and dancing was enjoyed by all. A few ladies tried their hand at line dancing. Raffles and lucky van drawn morning tea Sunday and farewells were bid. Such a lovely day, we stayed for lunch enjoying the sunshine.
Many thanks to the Committee for a great rally.

Christmas Rally - Henson’s POP
Wow! What a great country we live in. About 20 vans were already set up when we arrived at Shirley and Les Henson’s POP at Koromiko. A steady stream of vans kept arriving until 49 were in attendance.
The local committee ladies prepared veggies while the committee gents raised the marquee for the lovely shade that was so needed for happy hours and chats.
A tremendous meal was provided free of charges. The desserts supplied by all the vans were many and superbly varied. A selection of fruit juice and wines were also
leave your worries behind
Rally Reports
available. When Christmas dinner was over many vanners had a nanny nap, the rest carried on with happy hour. After tea Grant from Nelson entertained on the keyboard whilst the members sang Christmas Carols till they all slipped away for sleep.
On Sunday a minute’s silence was observed for the Pike River miners. After the customary raffles were drawn and speeches made, camp was struck and the vanners left happy after a tremendous weekend of sun, food and frolics. A big thank you to Shirley and Les for their hospitality. Many enjoyed the walks up the hill.

Temuka
Temuka turned on great weather for the Christmas Rally with 44 motor homes. A handy venue only a short walk to the Market day and Parade. A jazz band and meal at the Jolly Potter was enjoyed by those who attended. Ten year badges were presented to Ron & Taff Perriam and Margaret & Ross Bradfield.
We were joined by members from Taranaki, Otago and Nelson and one of no fixed abode. The weather deteriorated late Saturday afternoon but did not spoil the evening of a succulent spit roast meal which was enjoyed by 81 members. Congratulations to the cooks and all the helpers. Also a great banquet of salads and deserts was supplied by members. Afterwards, a great variety of entertainment from members.
The weekend ended on the Sunday morning with morning tea and farewells and plans catch up again in 2011.

Christmas Rally
Bombay Rugby Club was a new venue for us, with great weather, comradeship, and laughter. Saturday was a full on, happy sunny day. After raffles and notices, there was a special presentation from Cherie Foster for the Peggy Nash Memorial Trophy. This was presented to Trish Reid who won our annual On Land Casting Competition held at Duders Beach. Cherie is Peggy’s daughter and she gave us a few laughs and memories of Peggy. (Peggy was a dedicated member of Counties).
Children painted pots and Xmas decorations, iced and decorated their own biscuits and had their faces painted. Santa arrived at 2pm and was greeted with many smiling faces anxiously awaiting their present from Santa.
After dinner, David Curtis provided entertainment to dance the night away and he did a wonderful job (somehow though he ended up with a pretty pink pair of knickers on his head!) Sunday morning, raffles were drawn, awards given out, followed by announcements and thank you’s. Brian & Deidre Wilkins won the prize for best xmas decorations
inside their bus, and Budget Palace and Leap Frog N shared the best two decorated buses. Seventy-two motorhomes attended this fun rally and made it a success.

Duders Beach Rally
Another great rally was enjoyed by the occupants of the 92 motorhomes at that ‘little touch of paradise’ – Duders Beach. For Friday’s Happy Hour, most people tended to mix and mingle with friends. On Saturday we had a beach front morning tea and raffles followed by an informative forum report by Chris King. In the afternoon it was fun and games on the beach front. A lot of hilarity for the Counties Wealth Games with members competing in versions of petanque, quoits and croquet, children’s sandcastle competition plus the special annual on-land surf-casting competition. It paid to stay well clear for some of those casts! Fun Happy Hours that afternoon were followed with an evening of music, courtesy of keyboard-playing Alan Tomlin.
Morning tea at the beachfront on Sunday morning, with raffles and awards. The surf casting winners (men’s) were 1st Ray Shoebridge, 2nd Colin Anderson and 3rd Tom Dimond.
For the ladies competition; 1st Tris Reid, 2nd Lynne Shaw, 3rd Lynette Torstonson. For the Counties Wealth Games medal ceremony the medals went to Ron Nicoll (bronze), Keith Beech (silver) and Sid Gorden (gold). We like many others were very reluctant to leave.

Christmas Rally, Tapu Motor Camp
The venue, weather, and new hosts at Tapu were great. On Saturday, four of our members were presented with their 10 year continuous service badges. Congratulations Garry & Jean and Dennis & Bernadette. Following this, Peter Carter, the Department of Conservation Facilities/Heritage Manager for the Coromandel, gave an excellent informative insight into the DoC activities and the amount of work that has been done (and still to come) in the greater Waikato region and local Coromandel area.
Later, Christmas dinner was great (as usual) – thank you Kevin, Dallas and staff. The special announcements led by Danielle was a special bonus. The decorated tables and Christmas hats were “sparkling”! Mel, the entertainer, decided to find a Miss Hauraki/Coromandel 2010 Dancing Queen with the help of a ‘questionable judge’. Lesley Gilchrist from Nelson ultimately wore the crown.
Sunday morning, another good speaker: Bruce, a born and bred Tapu citizen, Hotel Host, (from across the road) and new leaseholder of Tapu Motor Camp. He talked about the local history
and how the reserve land and the hall have been maintained as they are today. Bruce plans to update the motor camp (but not the charges) and welcomes all NZMCA members.

Te Hape Marae Rally
33 vans arrived Friday in time for Powhiri (formal welcome) onto the marae. Gabriel Moana gave the welcoming speech and Brian Stanley replied on behalf of the rally attendees. This gave a great start to an eventful weekend where everyone took part and engrossed themselves in Tikanga Maori. For most it was a first time experience. The Powhiri was followed by a delightful meal that was supposed to be a light meal but in true Rereahu Iwi protocol the meal was a feast.
Saturday - thanks to Priscilla Brightwell for baking the three Christmas cakes. Thanks also to Coral and Gail for doing a great job selling the raffle tickets. Brian spoke about Maori history in the local area including the ancient Miringa Te Kakara marae which was a 30 minute walk from Te Hape. He provided a guided cross country tour to this ancient marae.
Later we welcomed the kapa haka group onto the marae followed by a beautiful rendition of local Maori songs and haka, and the Christmas hakari (feast). After dinner the CBOP Area members sang carols. A poropoaki (farewell) took place on Sunday

Otaki Bridge Lodge
Sunny weather brought vans a plenty to this venue without the fear of being bogged down and towed out on Sunday (unlike last year).
Friday night‘s entertainment was a series of songs from several musicals put on by the Coasters Musical Players.
Noeline kept the children busy most of the day making name tags, lolly scramble and activities such as wrapping the men in toilet paper and carrying cotton balls in a soup spoon ladle to a bucket blind folded. 2.30pm heard the tinkle
of Santa’s bell and all children young and old lined up to get a hug and or kiss from Santa and his hairy fairies (not to mention a gift). A beautiful dinner was had in the hall put on by our Hostess Maureen and her staff. It was well received by all. This was followed by dancing with music provided by Greg on the guitar.
As usual Sunday arrives all too quickly. Morning tea was enjoyed with a beautiful Christmas
cake provide by Marilyn McIntyre and cut by Stewart Hoy. Raffles were drawn and people were on their way.

Outram
Christmas 2010 was celebrated by Otago with a Champagne breakfast on Saturday morning, hosted by Committee members (those who were available).
There was a great team to prepare the cooked breakfast with enough food for a combined dinner at night plus breakfast on Sunday morning.
During the afternoon, the competition to find Father Christmas in one of the motor homes was a great delight for the children. Thank you Colin.
Saturday night Tony Korner provided a great mixture of music both listening and dancing. The weather on Saturday was magnificent and a great week for a Christmas rally.
A big thank you to the people who assisted with the breakfast.

Christmas Rally
What a great venue for our Christmas Rally, surrounded by lush green farmland. 37 vans were parked on site, Christmas decorations could be seen in several windows, and a lovely sunny day on Saturday.
A special meeting was held at 1.30pm to elect our Forum Delegate. Allister McCreadie was
re-elected with Tub Rodgers as his deputy.
Friday evening saw music in the clubrooms. Eddy and I were joined by Russell Scott with his electronic pipes, and Ron Gallagher sang some good country ballads. Ron and Valda
Cross performed their yodel and Shirley Pooley sang two songs. Christmas decorated hats appeared on Saturday making a very colourful spectacle – well done. Glenice Kirkwood had made a beautiful Christmas cake that was
much appreciated. The evening Christmas meal was amazing. Santa arrived and gifts were
given out amongst much hilarity and of course kisses for the man himself. A musical evening to follow featured Max McCauley and others
– another good night.
A big thank you to our committee members who so capably organised the Christmas meal and decorations. Closure on Sunday after raffle draws etc. Great rally!

Christmas Rally Egmont Village School
At 3pm vans started rolling in. By Saturday we totalled 85 vans, five visitors and three first time rally-goers. With the drought conditions we all had Happy Hours outside and many dined outside too.
Morning tea, Raffle sales, a cake stall, children making arty things, onion slicing, bread buttering then a sausage sizzle put on by our committee. The children and two clowns played ripper rugby before the jolly gentleman himself in a red suit arrived. Lovely to see the smiling faces of the
55 children – this is their rally. But the adults were not forgotten after a fabulous meal was put on by the School’s PTA. Senior pupils served the meal and the grand old man appeared
again handing out gifts this time for the senior kids. I think Santa was a bit shocked as the first lady rushed up and sat straight on his knee
– his face was the same colour as his suit!
Blake Lusk won the children’s best decorated van. Jean and David Christensen won the best adult’s van, while Tom and Margaret won the
‘most attended rallys’ trophy, and Bernie Smart got the ‘stirrer of the year’ spoon.

Christmas Mystery Rally
Arriving on the Friday night with almost all of the 42 motorhomes already there, we gave instructions on how to read the straight-line map. Starting at the Kaikohe show grounds on Saturday morning the vans were sent off at 2 minute intervals with map in hand. That was the start of a very interesting day with vans getting lost, one van returning to the beginning, another driving 1 hour in the wrong direction, plus vans driving around in circles. Just as well that they had an emergency envelope to open. Half managed to follow the directions perfectly and were greeted at the Takahue Hall (17kms south of Kaitaia) by Gillie & Allan Bond. Fits of laughter were heard all afternoon as they shared their stories of how they got there. The winners from those completing the straight-line map were Marshall & Sandy Oliver with Jordie & Pat Jordan second, and Bob & Margaret-Mary Upperton third.
The caterers put on a wonderful meal and the only complaint heard was that they had eaten too much. Later the band playing and people danced into the night topping off an interesting day. The usual raffles and farewells on Sunday.

Christmas Rally
Wow! What a great rally it was. Contrary to the rumours prior to the date, it was a great venue, and an excellent meal put on by Roy & Kathy Reddich.
A lot of members took advantage of the great bar meals on offer on Friday night as well as the happy hour.
After morning tea on Saturday, the children’s party got off to a good start, with games
and craftwork. The arrival of the man in the Red Suit was after lunch. Thanks must go to Noeline & Pam and all the ladies who made this a great success. By 6.30pm we were sitting down to dinner, then Joy Adams got the evening entertainment underway.
It was great weekend. Thanks to all those members who attended – your contribution was greatly appreciated. Without the laughter it would be a sorry place.

East Packhouse – Edgecumbe
Even though we had advertised no entry before 3.30 pm we still had vans arrive an hour early. Once the official time arrived we had a steady flow of vans (50 in all) with one more arriving in time for lunch on Saturday. Friday night was a wine and cheese evening together with singing of Christmas Carols. Saturday morning and where is the Xmas cake? A quick trip into Whakatane and we had a cake. It’s surprising what motorhomers carry in their vans: one beautifully decorated cake thanks to Ray & Pat, Carol & Priscilla all before morning tea.
Later, we had a BBQ sausage sizzle with BBQs appearing from all over the place. This was followed by a visit from a nice lady and a Old Guy in a Red Suit with a delightful Fairy. At 6.30pm all back in the hall with our main meals (the Club supplied dessert), and finishing the evening with housie.
Saturday morning and rally-goers were heard to remark, “All we have done this weekend is eat!” Isn’t that what we do at Xmas? Morning tea, raffle draws and farewells to another fun filled rally.

Waerenga-O-Kuri Rally
Eastland Christmas rally got off to a great start. Several members joined the local school children on the Thursday evening for Christmas carols in the local hall.
Friday’s happy hour was spent with the locals
– always an enjoyable evening.
Saturday dawned very cool and windy. After morning tea and Christmas cake we had
a sing a long with Christmas carols. Later several members went for a walk around some gardens nearby. In the afternoon we had a parade of Christmas hats – look out Melbourne cup Eastland members will be taking over next year! Christmas dinner was served followed by great music and dancing.
Sunday was a lovely warm day. During morning tea we drew the club raffles and the prize
kindly donated by Bluebridge – very much appreciated. Alan Gee closed the rally with wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and safe travels over the holiday period.
This end of year rally is always well supported
– we had 21 vehicles in attendance – and without a good strong Rally Marshall would not be the success it was once again. Many thanks Alan great job done and many thanks to those who helped.

Duddings Lake Christmas Rally
The marquee was already up when most of the 60 motorhomes and caravans arrived on Friday.
Happy hour saw the Marquee fill to overflowing, with many outside enjoying the sun.
After Saturday morning tea everyone was
free for the rest of the day. Light drizzle made some of the Committee decide to extend the Marquee. The extra room created made it easier to set up for Christmas Dinner. A few decorated their tables.
Happy hour saw another full Marquee. By 6pm, everyone was back at the Marquee for tea with their own veges and dessert.
While two Committee members carved up two big hams, with heads down to keep up with the queue, others served bubbles. Tea finished and it was time for dessert. Over 60 dishes to chose from and very little left when everyone was finished.
Then the wait for the Big Man in the red suit. With 11 children and 101 adults, Santa’s fairies had their work cut out. Some celebrated til midnight.
Sunday morning tea saw more raffles and
Lucky Van Draw. With goodbyes and Christmas Wishes, another well run Rally was over at a great venue.

Christmas Rally
Whoa! Another great Christmas Party in the Wairarapa with great people. 57 vans, great weather and lots of lovely food. A lot of vans turned up Friday night. They mingled around, some went to the Featherston Christmas Parade Saturday.
Morning tea and plans for the day were given. Some movanners went downtown, some to a market day, others just laid back and enjoyed catching up with one another. Happy hour at
4pm, then at 4.30pm Santa arrived handing out Christmas gifts to everyone, and telling tall stories to the odd person. What a noise
– everyone was buzzing and laughing. At 6pm everyone returned for an absolutely wonderful pot luck Christmas dinner. Thanks to everyone for bringing a salad and dessert. The club supplied the meat and veggies, also ice cream. There were even seconds! Then with help from everyone, things got tidied up for the evening entertainment with Karaoke Joe – the spirits were going well, everyone singing along and
dancing into the night.
Woke to a lovely sunny morning and the smell of bacon and eggs from some vans. Morning tea and Christmas cake was cut by the oldest and newest Wairarapa members, raffles drawn and farewells.

Christmas Rally
Our Christmas Rally was held at Teapot Valley Christian Camp in lovely Nelson sunshine. What a great weekend. 74 vans began arriving at 3.30pm Friday, including vans from Marlborough, Hawke’s Bay and Auckland. Upon arrival all vanners were given Christmas
wrap, tinsel and bauble to make a rear window decoration. An evening meet and greet was held in the upstairs hall where old friends caught up and new friends were discovered.
Saturday morning had most vanners busy decorating their windows. Amazing what some can come up with! Christmas lunch was put
on by the Christian Camp and 135 vanners enjoyed a superb roast dinner with ham, followed by pavlova or Christmas pudding.
Audrey provided some lovely Carols on her keyboard to put us in the Christmas mood. Van decorating was judged in the afternoon while some slept off the dinner. Evening had us gathered outside for some Carol singing, accompanied by Grant on keyboard then Audrey entertained us again. Santa and
his helper arrived with prizes for the best decorated vans, then chocolates were given to all.
Sunday morning saw raffles drawn, Christmas wishes given and goodbyes said.
Thank you Committee for a wonderful weekend.

Charleston Motor Camp Christmas Rally
25 vans attended. Most arrived at the camp on Friday including vans from Christchurch and Nelson and three attending their first rally. Happy hour was held in the local hall.
Whitebait donated by Dianna and Bill Gilchrist and bourbon by Jim Barnes were raffled and well received.
After six dry weeks, rain set in overnight but 33 people still enjoyed the Underworld Adventures Ltd Rain Forest train ride on Saturday morning. By lunchtime the rain cleared and a small
group took a tour of Mitchells Gully Historic
Goldmine. Dianna ran a great programme
for the six children. Afternoon tea was in the camp kitchen before we all scrubbed up and went back to the hall for pre-dinner drinks in the Gold Diggers Club and a delicious three course meal served by some of the local ladies from the Hall Committee. Jim Barnes raised
a collection by fining everyone present for whatever he could think of which was also donated to the hall committee.
By Sunday morning the sun was out so we
had morning tea outdoors followed by a short meeting before heading back home.
