Energy

Climate change is an important issue that affects all of us and around 20%
of New Zealand’s greenhouse gas emissions come from the transport sector .

We all need to do our “bit” to help by using less energy, and so reducing
the amount of fossil fuels burnt and CO2 released into the atmosphere.

Water, Gas & Electricity:

  • Conserve water by fixing leaking taps, hoses and tanks
  • Install low flow shower heads.
  • Switch appliances off at the power point when not in use.
  • Limit your use of generators to conserve fuel and spare your neighbours the noise.
  • Make the most of sunlight to warm your motorhome during the day and close the curtains early to retain the heat in winter.
  • Check all gas connections, hoses etc for leaks.
Vehicle Emissions:

  • Emissions contain a number of different toxins that are harmful to health and the environment. Below are some tips to help reduce emissions:
  • Keep your vehicle tuned to the manufacturer’s maintenance guidelines.
  • Don’t’ wait to warm up your car – it is wasteful of fuel and is unnecessary if the vehicle is tuned.
  • Drive cleaner cars with the latest emissions control equipment – ask your dealer.
  • Keep track of fuel economy – a loss in economy usually means an increase in emissions.
  • Try to reduce idling time – idling for about 30 seconds uses more fuel than it takes to start the engine.
  • Avoid driving at peak times.
  • Plan trips so that you have one linked up trip rather than multiple trips.
  • Travel at moderate, steady speeds and avoid high speeds as they result in greater emissions.
