What we do

The NZMCA supports the New Zealand Tourism Strategy 2015 and endeavours to take an active role in the sustainable development of tourism.

The NZMCA represents members to develop and change legislation to foster the growth of the motor caravan tourism industry throughout New Zealand. We are the voice of the private sector and our efforts help to ensure all motor caravanners receive the privileges of touring our beautiful country.

At a local level we lobby councils to accomodate visiting motor caravanners e.g. installing public dump stations and designating appropriate areas for freedom camping. This is for the benefit of both domestic and international tourists.

Nationally, we are part of the Freedom Camping Forum convened by the Tourism Industry Association, and  the Tourism Waste National Working Group convened by the Ministry for the Environment. The focus of these independent groups is to address freedom camping, waste disposal, infrastructure and education issues pertaining to tourism. In addition, we consult on a number of planning and policy documents that relate to camping and motor caravanning

Many members volunteer their services at a local level whether it be tree planting, dune restoration, or beach clean-up projects. These projects are often coordinated by local authorities so if you know of an event in your area please contact your local Area Committee representative.

If you know of an initiative that the association may be interested in please contact the national office.
