As of the 1st of June 2017, the Tauranga City Council will issue $200 infringement notices to all freedom campers in breach of Tauranga’s freedom camping bylaw.
Please follow the below link for further information on the bylaw, including where freedom camping is permitted (e.g. reserves, roads and car parks) and the restrictions that apply. All of the 27 reserves where freedom camping is permitted have been marked with signage showing the designated area(s) and any relevant restrictions that apply. Other offences such as lighting fires and failing to remove all waste and litter can also result in a $200 fine.
When travelling in Tauranga please be aware of these signs and restrictions, and ensure you are familiar with Tauranga’s freedom camping bylaw to help prevent receiving an unwanted fine.
