We’re thrilled to welcome you to the fourth Hurunui Garden Festival.

Garden owners are ready to greet you and share their stories of how they’ve created their gardens.

Over the weekend you can visit private gardens, historic homes, and artists from Amberley to Gore Bay, and Waikari to Hanmer Springs, many within one hour’s drive of Christchurch and the airport.

There’s so much to experience and enjoy at the Garden Festival. A great weekend in the inspirational gardens and homesteads of the Hurunui.

The gardens are arranged into geographically based clusters, making it easy for you to plan your visit to multiple gardens. Each cluster has its own detailed map, showing you the precise location of the gardens, along with useful information, such as the locations of public toilets, accommodation, petrol and diesel stations, and food outlets.

It costs adults $10 to visit each garden, payable on the day as you enter the garden. Children 18 years of age and under accompanied by an adult may enter for free. Please have cash with you, as the gardens cannot process electronic payments. Alternately you can purchase a 10 ticket admission pack here

What do I need to know if I want to stay at one of the gardens?

  • If staying overnight please ring in advance and pre-book to ensure there is enough space
  • You can stay overnight free of charge
  • Must be self-contained and take all rubbish with you
  • Must follow and abide by all health & safety rules (most are working farms)
  • Please check to see if the garden allows pets
  • You are welcome to stay for the duration of the festival only

How do I book?

Please find and contact the garden you wish to stay at. A listing of all participating gardens is on the festival website.

Please note – everyone is welcome at all of the gardens but some may not be able to cope with large vehicles up the driveway, or overnight due to space or not having a flat area. Gardens that can accommodate you overnight will have an icon in the guide and the website.
