See the beauty of Hurunui this spring
We’re thrilled to welcome you to the third Hurunui Garden Festival. Over the weekend you can visit 18 private gardens from Amberley to Gore Bay, and Hawarden to Hanmer Springs, many within one hour’s drive of Christchurch and the airport.
Our garden owners are ready to greet you and share their stories of how they’ve created their gardens.
This year we offer visitors two self-drive tours; the return of the beautiful gardens and Hidden Gems of the Lowry Hills tour; hills to the sea and a new Waipara Gorge tour; Mysteries of the Waipara Gorge – iron sculptures, concretians and moa bones. Visitors will get to view and learn about the geologically rich landscape.
There are garden events to educate, entertain and inspire you. While you’re enjoying our gardens and warm hospitality, we hope you’ll stay the night and visit our wineries, cafes, and the many other attractions of the Hurunui District.
There’s so much to experience and enjoy at the Hurunui Garden Festival. We’re looking forward to seeing you for a weekend in the outstanding gardens and attractions of the Hurunui region in North Canterbury.
A bit more about the festival
The Hurunui Garden Festival was launched early in 2018 by a group of local garden owners who wanted to assist with the Hurunui District’s recovery from the devastating earthquake of November 2016. The concept was to open gardens and invite visitors, particularly from outside the district, to spend a weekend enjoying the gardens and other attractions of the Hurunui District. The Festival would thereby create opportunities and benefits for businesses and residents across the district. More than a celebration of inspirational gardens, the Hurunui Garden Festival would be a district-wide promotion of the many attractions and warm hospitality of the region.
Hurunui Garden Festival is an incorporated society and not for profit. The committee are all volunteers.
