Kiwigrass! New Zealand's 3rd Annual National Bluegrass Festival

New Zealand's own National Bluegrass Festival, Kiwigrass is back for 2021. All of the best New Zealand bluegrass bands will gather for a weekend of celebrating the music pioneered by Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs, and Lester Flatt.

Kiwigrass Festival (5 Feb - 7 Feb 2021)

The sound of banjo, bass, dobro, guitar, fiddle, and mandolin will fill the air along the banks of the beautiful Lake Karāpiro, at the Don Rowlands Centre on the Mighty River Domain. Concerts, workshops, instrument makers, and jam sessions are only the start of what is a great all-ages event.

Camp Kiwigrass  (3-4 Feb 2021)

Open to all bluegrass and old time musicians and those who would like to learn, Camp Kiwigrass is an opportunity to expand your musical horizons through collaboration and interaction with other practitioners of the genre.  Expect impromptu sharing of knowledge, lots of jam sessions, a band scramble competition with fabulous prizes, and many opportunities to perform. Camp Kiwigrass replaces Kiwigrass Academy this year, due to the Covid19 pandemic and the unavailability of instructors from the US. The format will be different, but the experience will be every bit as exciting and enjoyable!

Make a whole weekend of it!

The Mighty River Domain has 60 powered and 80 non powered sites. These sites can be hired individually or in blocks during events and non-event times. Note all parking MUST be on your site and not beside.

What's provided?

  • Two amenity blocks with toilets and showers
  • A kitchen with two ovens, a single chest freezer, a double door fridge, a hot water unit and four sinks
  • A laundry facility is located on site, laundry costs are $3 per load
  • A dump station and plenty of water taps for refilling tanks

What do I need to bring?

Only basic camping facilities are provided. You will need to bring all your cooking equipment and linen, and everything else that is required for an enjoyable camping experience.

Site information:

  • 7x8 Metre
  • All parking MUST be on your site and not beside. Sites accommodate one large or two small tents plus a car. Extra Large tents such as marquees will not accommodate a car on the same site so another site would need to be booked. 
  • Electricity can only be connected through an approved isolating transformer or RCD Safety switch. Caravans must have current electrical warrant of fitness and comply with LPG gas regulations.

Pricing

Powered site: 

  • Adults $21.00 per person per night
  • Child (12 and under) $16.00 per person per night

Non powered site: 

  • Adults $19.00 per person per night
  • Child (12 and under) $16.00 per person per night

*Minimum charge of 3 adults per site per night during events.
