Join us for a truly iconic country Race meeting staged in the heart of Central Otago!

The Central Otago Racing Club races at Omakau once a year in January and every effort is taken to ensure that this is a memorable day for all.

Omakau township is right in the Central Otago Rail Trail and only 20 minutes from Alexandra and 45 Minutes from Cromwell. Not only do some of New Zealand’s Horses compete, but spectators can win many fantastic prizes throughout the day including Gibbston Valley festival concert tickets, a Highland Motor Park ride, local scenic flight or enter the Ladies Fashion competition. There is FREE kids entertainment ALL day; including Pony and Jeep rides, two HUGE Bouncy Castles, scavenger hunt competition- to name a few.

There is EFTPOS on course, licensed bar, espresso coffee, multiple food vendors and mostly all local vendors fundraising for local groups. By supporting our day, you are supporting our community and not just the club. Admission is $10 per Adult over 18 with kids free, so join the expected 7,000 people at the Omakau trots for a truly iconic Country Race Meeting and keep an eye on our facebook page with chances to win, especially leading upto the day.

  • Gate Sales only - no need to book, just purchase your tickets at the gate when you arrive
  • Ticket prices are $10 per adult and under 18 free

Certified Self Contained Overnight Parking for Motorcaravans

We are excited to be able to offer parking for Self-Contained Motorcaravans

Motorcaravans are welcome to stay on after the races. Race Course facilities include toilets, kitchen & dining room and will be available for you to use (no showers available).

Location: Racecourse Road, Omakau. Please use the second gate entrance off Racecourse Road and follow the signs to the Motorcaravan parking area.

When? Parking available from 10 am on the 2nd January 21. Please email the club president, Graham Sinnamon if you wish to arrive before the 2nd January and confirm your desired arrival and departure date and the length of your stay (this is flexible). Email [email protected]

Cost? $10 per van, per night

Anything else I should know? Dogs are permitted, but must be cleaned up after and due to the presence of horses they must be on a leash at all times.
