Enjoy over 50 gardens throughout beautiful Taranaki
Every year our Taranaki Fringe Garden Festival (TFGF) garden members prepare and open up their beautiful gardens to excite and enchant their many visitors from Taranaki, New Zealand and around the world.
Cottage gardens, native gardens, highly structured or rambling and informal, whatever your taste in gardens there is something for everyone. The Taranaki Garden Trust (TGT) also encourages the visitors to explore our home studio’s in the gardens and the many other places of interest along the Taranaki Fringe Garden Festival trail thus creating a truly Taranaki Experience as they travel the region. This is a truly unique spring experience, that has visitors inspired and motivated to take their own gardening skills to the next level, not just a show, this festival is a 10 day adventure into outstanding gardens throughout the region.
Among the 50+ gardens and places of interest for visitors to see there new private gardens, some stunning gardens returning after a break and four public gardens entered. The new entries are spread around the region in Patea, Hawera, Rural Hawera, Rural Manaia, Rural Eltham, Rural Inglewood, Bell Block, and New Plymouth. It is good to have fresh gardens and ideas for the regular festival visitors but they also like to revisit gardens they have seen in past years to see what changes have been made and how the plants have grown.
$2pp payable at each garden entrance. No dogs are to be brought through the gardens.
The TGT have released their new motto “Real Gardens for Real People” which is a statement that explains our ethos and that of what we offer and who we are.
The TFGF offer affordable pricing at $2pp per garden, and practicality as many gardeners attending the TFGF are looking to replicate ideas from our gardens and as the concepts and features displayed are realistically attainable they are able to do this in their own gardens. Thirdly the TFGF thrives on its friendliness and approachability. All our gardeners open their gardens up with a hearty welcome and are happy to talk about their gardens, answer questions and give advice. Some of our festival gardeners also offer a free hot drink and biscuit and invite you to bring your own picnic and blanket to enjoy passing time in their garden.
Certified Self Contained Motorcaravan Parking at the Gardens
Overnight parking for Certified Self Contained Motorhomes and Caravans has been organised with the owners of the below gardens. Please contact and make arrangements with the owners of each garden you'd like to stay at in advance to reserve the limited spaces available for overnight parking.
Rotokare Scenic Reserve offers freedom camping in accordance with the South Taranaki District Council regulations on freedom camping.
This limits camping to 3 nights in any calendar month. The regulations limit 3 self-contained and 3 non-self-contained spaces, however we often have many, many more than that. We do not take bookings or reservations. Suggested donation is $10/ pp/ per night. (Which is a tiny amount for the unique privilege of sleeping inside a sanctuary!)
