New campgrounds have been opened in two of Auckland’s most special marina locations; Bayswater Marina on Auckland’s North Shore and Pine Harbour in the Auckland’s East.
The newly-opened camping spaces have opened in response to a shortage of places for campers to stay in New Zealand’s biggest city. Both offer grassy waterfront sites in proximity to some of Auckland’s best features. With parklike grounds, Bayswater Marina is close to Auckland CBD, the Takapuna shopping area, boat ramp and beach, and the historic area of Devonport. Pine Harbour Marina, situated on the eastern edge of the city on the glittering Hauraki Gulf, has three restaurants on its grounds and a monthly market.
Both have their own boat ramps and ferry terminals. Bayswater is just a ten-minute journey across the Waitemata Harbour to Auckland’s Downtown Ferry Terminal. Pine Harbour is a 35-minute ferry ride from the CBD, a scenic journey along the southern side of Waiheke Island.
“We have been hearing about the lack of spaces in Auckland for this group to stay, and so we decided to make some of our grounds available,” says Bayswater Marina Manager Gareth Wilson. “We have plenty of room, and quiet, beautiful grounds that we think campers will greatly enjoy.”
Both sites are available to CSC motorhomes and caravans, and have public toilets adjacent to the camping area. They each offer secure parking for up to four nights for a fee of $20 per night per adult ($10 per child), and the ability to fill fresh water tanks onsite. Bayswater offers coin operated showers ($2 for 5 minutes) and a coin operated laundry ($4 per load). No dump site available.
