Become a Freedom Camping Ambassador

Think you've got what it takes to help the Kaikoura DC manage freedom camping this summer?

The Kaikoura District Council looking for people to join their team on a fixed term, part time contract over summer. Thanks to government funding they have $ to create a small, specialized team that will help tackle issues, educate visitors and help everyone (residents and visitors) have the best summer possible.

You will be responsible for providing information and advice to visitors and the wider community through informal visits and monitoring of freedom campers throughout Kaikōura District.You will educate freedom campers in 'responsible camping' initiatives, provide assistance, answer public queries and collect relevant statistical data. You will show our visitors and residents why Kaikōura is such a great place to visit and live in. An awareness of the cultural importance of Kaikōura together with a passion for our beautiful coastline are just some of the attributes you will bring to this special role in our community.

What you'll need:

  • A current full and clean NZ car driver's license
  • Must be prepared to work in all weathers
  • Previous successful customer service experience
  • Effective communication - both written and oral
  • Investigative abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Currently eligible to work in New Zealand.

Working days/hours can be flexible for the right candidates, core hours are 4 hour split shifts – 6am to 10am and 7pm to 11pm daily.

Successful applicants must successfully undergo a satisfactory Ministry of Justice criminal check and possess a satisfactory police record in line with Council's employment requirements.
