DOC announces vaccine policy

The Department of Conservation (DOC) have decided that from 15 December, all eligible people aged 12 years and over who are staying in DOC accommodation must be fully vaccinated.

This covers all DOC campsites, both bookable and non-bookable. We’re now alerting all those with existing bookings after 15 December 2021 that full vaccination is now a requirement for all eligible people aged 12 and over. Moving forward, anyone making a booking at a DOC facility will need to confirm that they and all eligible people in their group are fully vaccinated. Hut wardens and camp hosts are regularly on-site and will be checking for vaccination status.

For more remote huts and smaller campsites that are not bookable, there will be spot checks. Visitors will need to make a judgment on whether they are comfortable with that.

For people who are concerned about the covid risk or who do not wish to be vaccinated at this time, they can get a full refund on an upcoming booking. This is easy to do via the DOC booking system.

We’re also aware that some unvaccinated people who have purchased campsite passes may now no longer be able to use them. In these instances, partial refunds will be available. Customers can access this by emailing [email protected]z with their account name and pass number/s.

There’s information available on the DOC website and it would be great if you could make your members aware of this: www.doc.govt.nz/accommodation-vaccine-policy.
