Rare opportunity to enjoy the quintessential kiwi summer at one of two idyllic coastal campgrounds on the Pouto Peninsula in Kaipara. The extended summer period runs from mid-October 2024 to the end of April 2025 the following year, and then 1 December to 30 April the following years.
What is involved?
The NZMCA has entered into long-term lease agreements with the Kaipara District Council to operate both public campsites on the Pouto Peninsula. Our objective is to continue to offer kiwi families an affordable campsite, while sharing profits with a local community group. The campgrounds require campsite hosts from at least 1 December to 30 April the following year, and the hosts will be supported by local volunteers, when required. For the first year, we require hosts from mid-October 2024 to the end of April 2025.
For both campgrounds, guests must pre-book and pay for their individual campsites in advance. Entry to both campgrounds will be controlled by an electronic boom gate that paid guests will receive access to via a phone app. Other than the campsite hosts, no long-term or permanent residents are permitted at either campground.
Glinks Gully offers 10 powered campsites, 15 non-powered campsites, a sheltered kitchen and dining area, toilets, and user-pays hot showers.
Kellys Bay offers 16 powered campsites, 14 non-powered campsites, and an enclosure for solar showers.
The campsite hosts will be responsible for monitoring the day-to-day use of the campgrounds while providing a friendly service to our new and returning guests. Both positions involve light duties for a couple of hours per day. Responsibilities include helping guests navigate the electronic gate and, if necessary, access the online booking app, ensuring guests keep the grounds and facilities tidy (contractors will mow the lawns and clean the facilities on site), ensuring guests comply with the campground rules, and that NZMCA meets its lessee obligations.
Who are we looking for?
Friendly and capable individuals or couples who are available to stay at either campground for some or all the required time period (mid-October 2024 to late-April 2025). Ideally, we are looking for volunteer campsite hosts and in return they will receive free access to one of the campgrounds, power, and other services available on site. An allowance for food and petrol will also be provided, the value of which will depend on your length of stay and availability.
