Due to the extreme fire danger and declared state of emergency the Department of Conservation has as of today closed the following areas in Hawke’s Bay:
Kuripapango Campsite (TD 3737)
Te Puia Lodge
Waikare River Mouth Campsite, Putorino (TD 3685)
The Hastings District Council has agreed to close Makahu Road at the Pakatutu road junction.
As this closure comes under a declared state of emergency for the Hastings District no persons, except for residents and land owners have any legal purpose to be on the road.
Pan Pac, would it be possible to close access of to the Kaweka Forestry from Taihape Road to DOC car parks in order to mitigate the fire risk in that area as well?
If Pan Pac close the above roads the only access to the Kaweka Forest park will be by Cameron car park, Comet road, Kaweka and Lotkow roads.
This will be reviewed daily, but is expected to be in force for approximately seven days
Please see attached media release, have also included an extract from the HB Today as to what a state of emergency means
Alerts will go up on relevant pages on the DOC website soon (thanks to Malcolm Lock, Senior Ranger at the DOC Napier District Office)
