Greenfund: we'd like to know what you think
Established last year with a $10,000 contribution from the NZMCA, the Greenfund is a joint venture between the Association and Greenfleet, an environmental not-for-profit organisation with a 20-year track record in connecting people with real climate action.
The idea was to meet the needs of NZMCA members concerned about the impact their vehicle is having on our country’s natural environment by enabling them to help fund the planting of native trees to offset their fuel emissions.
Greenfleet plants biodiverse native forests that grow into resilient ecosystems and help restore habitat for native wildlife. As they grow, the trees absorb carbon from the atmosphere, reducing the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere responsible for climate change.
Members’ contributions are entirely voluntary and how much you give is your choice. However, as a guideline, each 750kms you drive can be offset by the planting of one tree. It’s an ideal way for members with a heart for environmental protection to make a positive difference to their communities. However, members’ take-up of the offer has been less than expected.
A short two-minute questionnaireis now open to gather feedback from as many members as possible (not just those who have already donated) on the concept. It will canvas such issues as: Do you know what the Greenfund is? Is the Greenfund something you can imagine supporting? What might be stopping you from contributing to the Greenfund?
The aim of the survey is to gather information that will help the Association and Greenfleet better assess the Greenfund’s future direction.
