If you’re looking for work this summer, Kaikoura could be the place to go.
Mel Skinner from the local council’s Economic Recovery team has contacted the NZMCA to ask if any members would be interested in helping staff Kaikoura businesses for the summer - particularly in the accommodation, hospitality and retail sectors.
“There’s already high employment levels amongst locals, so the difficulty of getting staff is in relation to the lack of accommodation available in Kaikoura at present to attract internationals and people from outside of Kaikoura.
“Businesses have found staff but then have been unable to accommodate them. And as a result, a number of our business cannot open or fully operate as they do not have staff.
“So, the idea has been floated by our local businesses that members of the NZMCA – who, of course, bring their own accommodation with them - might be interested in spending the summer in beautiful Kaikoura and undertaking part time or full time work in our town.”
Mel says: “It would be a good way to earn some cash, plus add value to the local community by assisting our businesses. We are hoping this might be a great option for some NZMCA members that are keen for a summer in Kaikoura.”
