The NZMCA has a network of over 550 qualified self-containment officers who are essential to the success of the NZMCA’s self-containment programme.
Most of our officers are unpaid volunteers who give up their time to support the club and their fellow members. Without their support and dedication, we would not be able to maintain the services and credible programme we have today. If you need to contact a self-containment officer in your local area, please click here.
Self-containment officers also play a crucial role in providing advice and assistance to members whose vehicles do not meet the full compliance requirements for self-containment. They also assist members who may be looking to renovate their motorhome or caravan and require more firsthand knowledge.
NZMCA’s self-containment officers are currently qualified to inspect vehicles under the New Zealand Standard for Self-containment of motor caravans and caravans (NZS 5465:2001). The NZMCA is currently working to retrain our active self-containment officers to become qualified vehicle inspectors under the government’s new system and requirements of the Plumbers, Gasfitters, and Drainlayers (Self-Contained Vehicles) Regulations 2023.
The NZMCA will not begin inspecting vehicles under the government’s new regulations until October 2024, at the earliest.
When contacting an NZMCA self-containment officer please remember they are volunteers and observe reasonable hours preferably between 8:30am to 8:00pm.
NOTE: As this is a volunteer service, we ask that you arrange a convenient appointment time with the Self-Containment Officer and take your vehicle to them, otherwise the officer may seek mileage reimbursement from you.
Some self-containment officers are registered plumbers or provide inspections as part of their own businesses and therefore may charge a reasonable fee for their time. It is noted in the Contact Search section on the members’ side of the website if a fee may apply. When arranging a vehicle inspection, please clarify the inspection fee directly with the officer (the NZMCA has no say or control over the fees they set as part of their business).
Commercial operators, e.g. vehicle hirers, manufacturers, and dealers, who want the NZMCA to inspect and certify their vehicles should email [email protected] to discuss how we can help you.
Please note, that the NZMCA's volunteer service is available to financial members and preferred commercial partners only. However, there are other people and organisations who may be available to assist you, at the following link.
