Trust Horizon Light Up Whakatāne is back for 2026  

Whakatāne’s much-loved FREE 8-day light festival returns these July school holidays, bringing the town to life with light, creativity, and community vibes.

Explore a vibrant trail of stunning light installations and digital displays from talented local and regional artists, right through the town centre and surrounding parks. Alongside the Light Trail, enjoy a full programme of events celebrating art, performance, and community connection.

What's lighting Whakatāne up this winter?

  • Light Trail: Saturday 11 – Saturday 18 July | 6–9pm nightly | Whakatāne CBD
  • Opening Night – Dance Carnival & Night Market: Saturday 11 July | 4–9pm | Kakahoroa Carpark (behind The Strand)
  • Community Glow Parade: Friday 17 July | 5:30pm | Starting at Wharaurangi and travelling to the Atea Night Market + many more events across the festival week
