Welcome to Waihi, the entrance to the Coromandel from the south. We invite motor caravanners to stop awhile in Waihi and experience all that we have to offer.

Get to know Waihi as both a town full of mining history and also a modern mining town with so much to discover.

Follow Waihi’s 140 year plus gold story by visiting the Waihi Gold Discovery Centre where you can immerse yourself in the history of mining or get up close and personal to real miners and their work as part of a mine tour. Take time to visit the Waihi Art Centre and Museum, view working models and displays, and gaze in awe at the old pump house before walking the Pit Rim Walkway around the open cast Martha Mine in the heart of town. Then travel back in time on the Goldfields Railway to Waikino and visit the Victoria Battery and Museum.

Waihi is also a perfect place to begin, or end your journey on the Hauraki Rail Trail. Or make it your base and explore our many other walking and biking trails.

While you are here, take time to enjoy the wide range of cafes and restaurants and pick up a unique memento of your stay from one of our boutique shops.

We also host a number of events that bring in people from near and far and we welcome you to join us! Events include the Warm up Party for Beach Hop where thousands of people come to admire the hundreds of classic and modified cars and soak up the special Waihi atmosphere. We’re also renowned for our art exhibitions, the Echo Walking Festival, the Nugget Multisport Festival and the Great Train Robbery.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
