Things to know

Dogs with a DOC permit only. Contact the relevant DOC office to obtain a permit. Stay strictly on the tracks, as there are historic mine shafts scattered through the bush.

German Gully Pack Track

Time: 30 min one way

The track climbs out of the valley and emerges on the Scandinavian Hill Road. It passes several old gold workings.

Combine this walk with Goff's Track for a 90 minute loop walk.

Getting there: Start at the Goldborough Campsite on Stafford Loop Road, off SH 6, 17 km north of Hokitika.

Goff's Track

Time: 45 min one way

This walk branches off the longer Goldsborough Track about 15 minutes from the start. It joins the Scandinavian Hill Road after a 30 minute climb.

Combine this walk with German Gully Pack Track for a 90 minute loop walk.

Getting there: Start at the Goldborough Campsite on Stafford Loop Road, off SH 6, 17 km north of Hokitika.

Tunnel Terrace Walk

Time: 20 min loop

This a great option for kids with lots to keep them interested. Entry and exit points are via miners tail race tunnels and the track meanders through old gold workings. 

Getting there: The walk starts on Stafford Loop Road, off SH 6, 15 km north of Hokitika.

Goldsborough Campsite is on Stafford Loop Road. Turn onto Stafford Loop Road from SH 6, about 9 km north of Hokitika, or from SH 73 at Dillmanstown, 3 km south of Kumara.

Know before you go

Stay strictly on the tracks, as there are historic mine shafts scattered through the bush.
