Motorhome Friendly New Plymouth

We first visited New Plymouth back in 2013 when the NZMCA Taranaki Area hosted the 57th National Rally & AGM at the Pukekura Raceway.

The backdrop for the usual sea of motorhomes was the indomitable Taranaki Maunga and to the west, the Tasman Sea beckoned and in some places of the 12.7 kilometre Coastal Walkway built along the coast which we explored on our 1st day there, you can get drenched by the sea on days with unusually active waves.

This amazing, award-winning walkway has come to symbolise that connection between the mountains and the sea in a city where if you wanted to, you could do snowboarding and surfing all in one day. Yes you can- and it's just a 30-minute drive in between.

And for those wanting active pursuits but at a more leisurely pace, the city is a haven for cyclists. The city is so good at taking care of its cyclists that it counts among its well-deserved citations, 2010’s Model Communities for its walking & cycling initiatives and awards at the 11th International Awards for Liveable Communities for sustainability and community projects (like the famed walkway).

This liveability with a distinctly pleasant temperate climate have made the city a magnet not only for international tourism but also for NZMCA members. In fact, the city has been blessed with two NZMCA Parks; one at the Huatoki Domain Recreational Reserve (#4195) and the other one on Bell Block (#4171)
